Abandoned Kittens
The Staff
Abandoned animals face tough circumstances. Some people think that leaving a kitten, cat,
puppy, or a dog in a bag, cardboard box, or anywhere near where people are that someone will find them, rescue
them or keep them as a pet. Many times these animals don't end up in a good place, are
not found, or die of dehydration or exposure to cold or hot weather.
It is illegal to
abandon cats and dogs, but most of all it is cruel.
Sweetie was just 7 weeks old when someone left him and his 3 siblings in a box on
a corner. A family found them and put them in their chicken coupe and fed
them cows milk once in the morning. Sweetie was carried away by a child and got away
on his own for 2 days with no food or water. When children asked us if we wanted
kittens and showed us to the chicken coupe. We were ready to leave with just 3 until
a girl said there was one more still down the street. We found him, Sweetie.
All 4 siblings were very hungry and buried they face in 2 cans of wet food.
The next day Sweetie would no longer eat and became very weak, dehydrated, and just wanted to hide
and sleep. I took him to Adobe Animal Hospital in Los Altos they were not sure if he was
going to make it. They discovered that Sweetie developed a kidney infection and near renal failure
due to dehyradtion from lack of water and fluids. Luckily Sweetie bounced back pretty quick.

Sweetie just one day after being at Adobe.
He is standing and has some life to him.

Sweetie one week later. He is eating, playing, and looks like healthy little kitten.

Sweetie 2 months later. You would never know he came so close to death.
Sweetie was lucky, he was found, but not just found he was taken to a veterinarian and got the necessary treatment to give him a chance at life.
Many abandoned animals are not fortunate and die. Abandonment is a cruel thoughtless way of "getting rid of"
kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs. Try adoption, rescue groups, or no-kill shelters.
Today (Jan. 2005) Sweetie is 5 months old, adopted and living as an indoor kitten with
a 4 year old male cat.
